The ContinuBlend Continuous Blending Cooker is a continuous version of the very successful VersaTherm Blending Cooker that allows viscous products and slurries with fragile particulates to be mixed and cooked continuously for the first time.

When they are feasible, continuous processes are typically more cost effective to install and operate in relation to their throughput than batch systems and will improve product consistency and - very often - quality. Historically, continuous processing has been limited to relatively thin viscosity, homogeneous products as there was no available system offering the effective, continuous mixing needed to thermally process viscous, particulate formulations without either product degradation or incomplete mixing and unacceptable temperature variances.

The ContinuBlend now extends the range of continuous processing to thicker, slurry products with particulates and dissimilar ingredients such as ground meat formulations and concentrated soups. It is the first continuous system that gives true end-to-end mixing while maintaining first-in, first-out product flow control.

The ContinuBlend employs features that have made the VersaTherm batch blending cooker so successful: a wrap-around body shape for increased heat transfer surface, twin ribbon agitator mixing, our patented spring actuated scraper system and patented auto-reversing agitation system. By segmenting the vessel into three or more discrete processing compartments with fixed flow barriers and corresponding solid flight sections that interrupt the agitator ribbons, Blentech engineers have created an agitation system where thorough end-to-end mixing takes place within each compartment while, simultaneously, product is continuously “pumped” from inlet to discharge.

In effect, each compartment functions like a VersaTherm, with its inherent superior blending characteristics, to continuously mix and cook the product. The material is metered from one compartment to the next by the solid flights with cooking residence times determined by the net time difference between forward and reverse rotation of the agitators. Each compartment has independent jacket temperature zone control to ensure accuracy within +/- 1°F (0.5°C) for most products.

The ContinuBlend is a practical alternative to scraped surface heat exchangers, with their high maintenance costs and product degradation issues. It can continuously blend and cook the most difficult, viscous products yet its agitation is gentle enough to retain particulate identity. A PLC recipe control system manages the entire blending and cooking process to give the operator the utmost in flexibility. Blentech can also provide gravimetric and volumetric metered feeding systems and other ancillary equipment for complete, turn-key continuous cooking solutions.

Each ContinuBlend Continuous Blending Cooker system is custom-sized to a specific process and desired production rate. Blentech can design units with capacities from 1,000-lb/hr (545-kg/hr) and up, depending on the application.
